I have been thinking about this blog for a year and finally decided to just do it. Driving from one end of the 422 freeway in Douglassville to the other end in King of Prussia is a daily occurrence.
I thought it would be nice to share thoughts about things I see and hear.
Thoughts can range from pet peeves for other drivers actions to commercials on KYW 1060.
I find gas prices fluctuate along route 422 and it seems there is not a norm for which end of the commute actually has cheaper gas. It used to be the Douglassville Wawa, but that is no more.
I may even offer opinions about what may make the commute better or the weather.
So sit back and enjoy the commute!

Gas Fluctuations
Last week the price of gas jumped up at Wawa from 3.69 to 3.73. Yesterday it was back down to $3.66.
Driving down 422 last week gas ranged from $3.67 to $3.71.
Tip:
Watch the gas prices with a site like
http://autos.msn.com/everyday/GasStations.aspx?m=1&l=1&zip=19518&x=21&y=9

http://gasprices.mapquest.com/searchresults.jsp?search=true&latitude=&longitude=&gasPriceType=3%2C4%2C5&address=&city=&stateProvince=&postalCode=19518&radius=0&brand=&sortOrder=2
Some of them have maps; others lists. They can cover small and large areas and sort by price.
It is also important to not drive out of the way to save gas. You can figure out how much you can save but you need to figure how much you spend to get to the cheaper gas. Driving 5 miles out of the way can cost you ¼ a gallon of gas or $.90. If you save 5 cents a gallon and fill up at 12 gallons, that is only 60 cents and you are losing money. It is better to plan your trip to stop at the cheapest one when you go that way.
Also consider using the grocery store gas cards like Giant or Redners and save 10 cents a gallon for each $100 you spend in the store. Then each month or 2 you can get a great discount when you are at one fo their stations. I have saved 60 cents a gallon.

My worst pet peeve and crazy radio commercials
The thing that bothers me the most about the commute is not the traffic since I leave early enough to get to King of Prussia around 6am, but the drivers who do not like the car in front of them to leave a safe driving distance.
They will swerve into the right lane at the first opening and then cut back into the left lane in front of the car they were behind. They usually end up hitting their brakes because had accelerated so fast (more than 80 mph in some cases) and then have to slow back down. I have had to hit my brakes as they decide to jump in front of me with just a little space to squeeze in.
This causes a danger to all drivers around them. I am surprised there have not been more accidents because of these drivers.
Of the many commercials I hear on KYW 1060, the ones that amaze me the most are the Joseph A. Banks suit store. They have weekly specials that range from buy a suit and get a free shirt to buy one, get 2 free or even 4 free.
I have heard them say it is the best sale of the year so hopefully I can capture their sales each week and we’ll see what the best sale really is.
I wondered how they could give such good deals until I went in there a few years ago and found there suits start around $600 so getting one or two free brings the price down to the level of the other stores that sell suits at a mall.
